Meet the long awaited S5 Glider Bushcraft Knife. It is the fraternal twin of the F5 with key differences that make it a completely different knife. Specially designed for bushcraft tasks, the S5 Glider features a true scandi grind on a blade made from ultra-tough CPM 3V, a tried and true, American-made super steel. Measuring .16" thick at the spine, this blade is thinner and glides through wood with very little effort. This knife will make your next bushcraft or whittling project an absolute joy.
The 5" long, the full-tang handle balances well with the 5" blade, for a center of mass — or balance point — that rests right around the index finger. Have you ever gone to a mattress store and, after trying 50 mattresses, finally laid on the one that made you sigh in relief as your tired body melted into its warm embrace? Well, that's the feeling you should expect the first time you pick up your S5. The textured canvas micarta handle scales provide a natural feel and secure grip, even when wet. They are held fast to the tang with three sets of coated stainless steel fasteners.

TL;DR - WHOA!
What an exemplary knife the S5 is! I was searching for a bushcraft knife with a bit more oomph than my AdventureSworn Classic (AEB-L) 4”. I was enticed by the forthcoming Benchmade 163BM (Cruwear, cerakote) but wished it had a 5” blade and a scandi grind. I admittedly had not yet heard of Reiff, but browsing through BushcraftUSA forums and others led me to the S5. I ordered it and received it quickly. Even before unfurling the S5 from its wrapping I could tell that the feel, balance and size was going to be special.
I am no knife expert but a long time enthusiast with rudimentary knowledge of blades, steels, etc. Aside from some ‘good’ production knives (ZT, Benchmade, Puma, old Gerber) I have/had also some upper tier knives from Timberline, Chris Reeves, Busse, Strider, RMK and AdventureSworn. Reiff certainly fits in the upper tier.
I was also impressed by the responses left (by Stu) on some of the Reiff threads which I found very professional, knowledgable and courteous. Ultimately this is what tipped the scale on the decision to order the S5.
Immediately I had to take the S5 out back to baton some maple before the “Too-Nice-to-Use” mindset took hold. It worked wonderfully. Although it is slightly large for field dressing, I am sure it will be up to the task. This does seem like the goldilocks of bushcraft knives. It will be in service in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate NY.
The BadgerClaw sheath is awesome. For me though I need a drop-loop. I ordered a detachable “dangle loop” from them directly and would suggest Reiff offer that as an option as well.
The Kydex sheath fits well. Although perfectly functional I’m not thrilled with the belt loop and may look to replace that with an extension.
I haven't got the time to use the knife properly yet but the quality and finish is just excellent. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.
